What is Domain Registration & who controls it?
ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), a private sector non-profit organization controls the registrations of domains and set prices for them.
About Domain Registration
A registrar can be any company, and not necessarily the hosting company. We cannot register all domains, though we can host any domain as long as the DNS is pointed to us.
When you register a new domain name, always provide an authentic email id as you will be asked to verify your identity through email and the domain name may be suspended if the identity is not verified within 15 days. As you will need to access this email address for verifying your WHOIS information, we recommend that you utilize another email address, one that is independent of the domain being registered.
